This book had an amazing insight into the Darklings background。 The graphic novel style made it a super quick read but it was still such an enjoyable experience。The art from Dani Pendergast was phenomenal， it had so much depth and it really brought the story to life。

So， erm， finishing two books in one day was not my intention 😅。 I just flew through this one。 I was wary going into this because it’s a villain origin story， and I am very particular about villain origin stories: in my opinion， an origin story should explain， not excuse， someone’s actions。 I felt that this novel did that really well。 I really enjoyed Demon in the Wood in its original short story form， but I felt that it worked even better as a graphic novel and it was so interesting to watch the So， erm， finishing two books in one day was not my intention 😅。 I just flew through this one。 I was wary going into this because it’s a villain origin story， and I am very particular about villain origin stories: in my opinion， an origin story should explain， not excuse， someone’s actions。 I felt that this novel did that really well。 I really enjoyed Demon in the Wood in its original short story form， but I felt that it worked even better as a graphic novel and it was so interesting to watch the action and emotions playing out on the page。 Dani Pendergast’s art is absolutely stunning and she brought so much life and character to this story。 I’ve made no secret of the fact that I despise The Darkling， but I think this story is a really interesting insight into his childhood and the events that led him to become the character we all know。 Whilst I still hate him as much as I have always done， I find myself now feeling sympathy for the man he could have been， not the man he became。 I highly recommend this for all Grishaverse fans as it is a lovely addition to the wonderful word Leigh Bardugo has created。 。。。more

Screaming crying throwing up。 Si es que no puedo poner en palabras lo muchisisimo que AMO y admiro a este personaje y cuanto me gustó esta historia en su día y ahora ilustrada aun más。 El diseño de personajes me parece sublime y solo me queda rezar porque Leigh decida seguir ilustrando todas sus historias ❤❤❤

Take this review as from someone who hasn’t read the short story of the Darkling before reading this graphic novel。 It was actually while writing this review that I discovered where the story came from。If you’ve already read the short story of the same name， then you won’t find anything new about the plot here。 But if you haven’t， like me， you will discover a different Darkling than the one of the Shadow and Bone trilogy。 In this book， we follow him in his teenage years as he travels with his mo Take this review as from someone who hasn’t read the short story of the Darkling before reading this graphic novel。 It was actually while writing this review that I discovered where the story came from。If you’ve already read the short story of the same name， then you won’t find anything new about the plot here。 But if you haven’t， like me， you will discover a different Darkling than the one of the Shadow and Bone trilogy。 In this book， we follow him in his teenage years as he travels with his mother， Baghra， in their search for a safer place for Grisha。 This book provides a very interesting back story about the Darkling， still Aleksander at the time， and confirms that he is one of the best villains ever written。 The Aleksander from Demon in the Wood and the Darkling from Shadow and Bone don't have much in common anymore， still their main goal remains the same， protecting his people。 This is where the line between villain and hero blurs。 We all know the Darkling from the trilogy， but discovering how he became who he is， was simply heart-breaking。I loved the art style of this graphic novel。 It’s absolutely stunning and gives really realistic features to the characters。 I had no trouble recognising them。 Again， as someone who hasn’t read the short story， I can’t say which format is more relevant to the story。 But I think there is something even more touching to see it in drawing and in colour。 。。。more
